Beacon Hill businesses get the spotlight in Boston Magazine’s, “Best of Boston” this year, highlighting shopping, dining and other service venues across several categories around the Boston area.
In the dining category, two spots were taken by Beacon Hill eateries. Scampo, an Italian restaurant based out of the iconic Liberty Hotel, was awarded the best neighborhood restaurant by the magazine. They received commendations for their modern twists on classic Italian fare, with a recommendation to try their Robiola risotto with fried quail and walnuts.
Meanwhile, the award for the Best Irish Pub went to Emmet’s Irish Pub & Restaurant, stealing the spot from the South End. Located at 6 Beacon, Emmet’s offers a full menu of authentic Irish options and a homely atmosphere to match. With a broad selection of alcohol to offer, the magazine rates it as a great dining option for locals and tourists alike.
For those interested in looking to shop on Beacon Hill, there are two stores that the magazine recommends. The Best Luxury Consignment Shop was awarded to Covet, a store offering name-brand items like Gucci and Chanel at discounted prices and in good condition. The store keeps an active presence on social media, letting everyone know when new items are in stock. The second shop to visit is French + Italian, a boutique that offers the best loungewear in the city, according to Boston Magazine. The store offers clothes that blend fashion and comfort with their selection and dresses that capture a distinctly sunny European vibe. Unlike other stores on the list, French + Italian has more than one location, though it’s recommended you stop in to look through the carefully curated racks of the flagship Beacon Hill location.
Beyond food and fashion, there are two other businesses in Beacon Hill listed among the best that Boston has to offer. For the Best Women’s Haircut, Boston Magazine recommends the Green Room, a one-woman, one-chair salon operated by stylist Jessica Thornton. The Green Room offers a unique by-appointment experience for women looking to get a high-class hair styling.
Though expensive, Thornton’s expertise has won her four other “Best of Boston” awards over the years, making the Green Room not a place to overlook for your high-end fashion fix. Beacon Hill Shoe Repair takes in the award for Best Shoe Repair in Boston. Owned by Ukrainian immigrant Vadim Kotlyar, who learned the trade under his father, they offer repair services on shoes, boots, bags and leather goods. With free pickup and dropoff and a quick turnaround time, there is no better location to get your boots stitched up than in Beacon Hill.
