Boston's first skyscraper, the 14-story Ames Building at 1Court Street, was the tallest building in Boston for 22 years when completed in 1893. In 2007, the building was converted from office space to a luxury hotel. In 2020, the building was purchased by Suffolk University and converted into a student residence hall. The building lost its number one ranking when the Custom House tower was added in 1915.
