Mary Kay Robinson has been named executive director of the Fort Point Arts Community (FPAC). She is a nationally known flutist and arts leader.

Originally from Cleveland, Robinson has worked in and around New England for decades, having performed with the New Hampshire Music Festival Orchestra annually since 1996.

“A lot of my colleagues are in Boston, live in Boston, freelance in Boston and so I have deep roots in the musical community and arts community through them,” Robinson said. “One of my colleagues turned me on to the Fort Point neighborhood and so when I moved to Boston I thought this is where I want to be. I've often thought that when I end up in Boston I want to be in Fort Point and experience an amazing community.”

Robinson plans to expand the FPAC’s role in more of the arts. Its focus has mostly been on the visual arts.

“The board has charged me with the task of opening up the organization to include other art forms, such as music, theater, poetry,’’ as part of a stronger and wider outreach to the public.

She’s interested in starting a lecture series, holding concerts, offering music and art lessons, developing a space for recitals, and opening more gallery spaces.

“For those who may not have been involved recently, we need to really engage our membership as well as businesses in the Seaport, Fort Point area and all our stakeholders,” Robinson said. “We're looking at building our board and hopefully a big development campaign is coming soon.”

FPAC will be hosting a meet-and-greet with Robinson on Saturday, Jan. 14, from 3 to 5 p.m. at the Assemblage Art Space.
