An Honest Thief

Police responded to a radio call in the late afternoon of January 10 to a shoplifter in custody at Sephora in the Prudential Center.

Store security had detained a woman they observed concealing several cosmetic items in her purse totaling $300.

The suspect was visibly upset and very, very apologetic. She admitted to stealing the items and that it was a big mistake. A computer search found no outstanding warrants and that this was her first time in trouble. So much for beginner’s luck.

Our offender signed a no-trespass order and agreed not to return. She was escorted out of the store and took a deep breath of clear air.

One Less Gun

Around 8am on January 11, D4 responded to a call on Dwight Street about a gun. A woman who had recently moved here from Illinois had a legal firearm she no longer wished to keep.

Talk about potential firepower: a Sig Sauer P320 with two magazines.

Nice to know that South End residents feel safe around here.

Cash, Not Coffee

Jonquils Café & Bakery at 125 Newbury Street was broken into around 1am on January 15.

Store video captured a man dressed in all black clothing and wearing gloves prying open the front door and the cash register with a screwdriver. $1,200 in cash was stolen but no coffee or pastries were liberated.

Our thief appeared intoxicated on the video as he was falling over and dropping the stolen cash on the floor.

A Missing Fire Hydrant

D4 officers responded to a call about a motor vehicle that crashed into a fire hydrant at 238 Hemenway Street at 10:07pm on January 15. Regrettably, when they arrived, there was neither a damaged car nor a fire hydrant at the scene.

Presumably, the car sped away and, hopefully, the Fire Department had picked-up the hydrant prior to the police arriving. Who else would be interested in a used hydrant other than the fire department and local canines?

Sunday Shoppers

About 6:15pm on January 16, a woman stole a red polo quarter zip sweatshirt valued at $125 from Ralph Lauren at 93 Newbury Street.

The suspect was a female, about 5’7”, heavy build, black hair, wearing a pink puffy coat, jeans and beige boots. Red actually does work with this ensemble.

She entered the store with two other females. They all carried H&M bags which are perfect for carrying loot. The suspect placed the sweatshirt in her bag but became hostile when asked to return the item and leave the store. She threatened to hurt a store employee and spray her with mace.

Defiantly, she left Lauren and disappeared in a crowd of shoppers. How dare store personnel impede her Sunday shopping experience!

Not From Amazon

Ever wonder what happened to your missing Amazon package?

Four were found in the possession of two ladies at Dartmouth Place and Warren Avenue during the afternoon of January 20. When stopped and questioned by police, the suspects were initially apprehensive and claimed the packages were theirs.

Guess they thought D4 officers just fell off a turnip truck. After a little more questioning, they admitted to stealing the packages from doorsteps. The suspects will be summoned to Boston Municipal Court for receiving stolen property.
