Beacon Hill resident Jon Spillane will seek one of the four City Council-at-Large seats.

Boston’s City Council has 13 members. Nine are elected from different parts of the city and four are elected citywide.

Two of the incumbents, Michelle Wu and Annissa Essaibi-George are running for mayor and not seeking reelection. Of the 12 announced candidates, Spillane is the only contender from the Downtown neighborhoods.

He has lived on Beacon Hill for five years and is the Budget Director for the Council’s Ways and Means Committee chaired by District 8 City Councilor Kenzie Bok. Spillane is a member of the Ward 5 Democratic Committee and has served on Mayor Walsh’s Spark Boston Council which works with City Hall to represent and advocate city residents aged 20 to 34. Spillane has previously worked for the Department of Neighborhood Development where he managed the planning, preservation, financing and development of over 1,000 affordable housing units.

His father was a Boston police officer and his mother was the city’s Deputy Commissioner of Elderly Affairs
